WCYMS v Yarraville-Club: Washed-out
An early call (on Saturday night) was made to cancel all Sunday play, which was
disappointing given that when Sunday dawned, the track was a belter and the weather
glorious.
But that is turf cricket!!!
Under 15A
Werribee 3/180 d WCYMS 42.
Although out-classed by a talented Werribee batting line-up, the score does not reflect how
hard the boys fought and how well they bowled and fielded in very difficult, soggy
conditions.
Under 15C
Well another interesting morning’s cricket. I have to say that on the drive out there, with
the persistent showers, i was having flashbacks of last season. And even with an 8.45
start, the weather looked threatening.
The conditions didn’t do our bowlers any favours. With a slippery ball and a dodgy run up,
W’vale’s runs (sundries) were clicking over at a consistent rate. Having put on 47 runs(14
overs) to be 7/86, they only required 14 to win.
What an admirable effort then by the boys to only concede 10 runs off the last 10 overs!
For better or worse, the rain set in leaving them 4 runs and us, 2 wickets short.
Under 13A
The 13A needed to bat Werribee Centrals out of the game and if possible get in a position
to go for an outright victory. Matt Simmons led from the front and batted throughout the
day for a great 28 not out.
A great victory showing on day one that we have a lot of bowling potential, and a much
improved performance with the bat on Day 2.

Won – Forfeit
Under 11A Gold
Week 2 for us (away) against Caroline Springs blue saw us batting first after winning the
toss. Campbell MENZIES, William BOKMA, Lachlan DOWNEY and Lachlan HODGE all
made top batting scores of 7. Matthew ALLSOP took his first wicket for the season and
William BOKMA made a spectacular run out with a direct hit. Strong batting by our side
had us finish with 3/80. Our boys this week were full of confidence, their accurate and
quick bowling and fielding efforts managed to keep Caroline Springs restricted to 2/75. It
was a great night’s cricket, a real ‘nail biter’ towards the end! The boys really displayed
what they’re capable of, well done.
Under 11Cubs
Well the Under 11 Cubs had their first (practice) game at the new home ground Bayside
last Friday and what a ripper! At the end the scorers couldn’t split the teams (41 apiece),
which were each made up of mixture of Golds and Blues. Some great bowling saw the
pegs smashed back on a number of occasions. Boundaries were even achieved in the
healthy outfield. Well done to all.
The season proper commences for Cubs on Friday night, with our first WRJCA game. It’s
DERBY NIGHT, yes, Williamstown CYMS Cubs Blue is up against its old rival
Williamstown CYMS Cubs Gold!
