Tess Beagley’s Century

Tess Beagley’s Century: A Milestone of Grit, Leadership and Legacy

This weekend, Williamstown CYMS Football Club will celebrate a momentous occasion as Tess Beagley runs out for her 100th game — becoming just the second woman in the club’s history to reach the milestone.

Tess’s journey with the CYs began in 2017, when she took part in an exhibition match that laid the groundwork for the club’s inaugural women’s team. By 2018, she was a founding member of the squad, bringing her competitive edge from a basketball background and quickly becoming a cornerstone of the program.

A disciplined and hard-working defender, Tess has also shown her versatility and flair up forward — none more memorably than her seven-goal haul against Therry in 2023. Her on-field achievements include a premiership in 2023 and a grand final appearance in 2019, but her impact stretches far beyond the scoreboard.

Tess has been vice-captain across multiple seasons and the current Reserves captain and served as Club President for three — guiding the CYs through a period of significant change with resilience and vision. Her leadership has been pivotal in shaping the culture of the Women’s program and the club more broadly, mentoring younger players and fostering a sense of belonging and pride in the blue and gold.

“She leads with purpose,” says former coach, Lawrence Henry. “Tess is a powerful voice for our young squad, showing them the CYs way and building connection across the program. She’s a ‘never give up’ competitor who wears the jumper with passion. So many times when a moment on field has called for someone to lead, Tess is the one who steps up”

Off the field, Tess continues to give back to the game, coaching the Under 14 girls at Williamstown Juniors and championing the growth of women’s footy in the community.

Her 100th game was officially played against West Brunswick, but there is a joint celebration planned on August 16th to honour both Tess and Scarlett Kennedy — the club’s first female centurion earlier this season. A banner and a Women’s Past Players event will mark the occasion, recognising the legacy these trailblazers have built.

For Tess, the milestone is a testament to years of dedication, lifelong friendships, and the pride of helping build something lasting. From exhibition match to premiership glory, her journey is one of grit, grace, and unwavering commitment to the CYs. She has delivered a lasting legacy on the women’s program and club.
