It is with great pleasure that we announce that Mat Montebello will again take on the role as Senior Coach and Director of Coaching at CY’s for season 2021. Mat enters his 11th year as a coach at the cub and his 9th as Senior Coach and Director of Coaching. Since winning the Premier C Premiership and coming out undefeated champions for 2019, Mat had been working hard to recruit players for the 2020 season – our first in Premier B. Mat kept the senior mens team training and motivated during the Covid period, right up to the cancellation of the season last week. For Mat and the club there is unfinished business in Mens Premier B that will motivate and drive the club forward in 2021.
A timeline of Mat’s appointments and achievements at the CY’s so far:
2011. Joined club as U18 Coach (new team). Runners up to Rupertswood.
2012. Coach of U19. Runners up to Old Geelong.
2013. Appointed as club Director of Coaching and Senior Coach. Seniors finished 3rd in Div 1.
2014. Won Div 1 Premiership defeating Therry Penola. Promoted to Premier C Grade for 2015.
2015. Won 7 games, first year in Premier C Grade.
2016. Won 7 games.
2017. Won 9 games, made finals, finished 4th.
2018. Won 16 games, finished 3rd.
2019. Undefeated winning all 20 games, promoted to Premier B Grade in 2020 (first time ever in the clubs history).
