Sending off two cyms greats: A letter from the executive

Mathew Montebello

The Executive and wider CYs club would like to thank Mat Montebello for his 11 years of outstanding service and contribution the the club as he has announced that Season 2021 would be his last in his current roles.

Starting in 2011 as the Under 18s coach, ‘Monty’ grew into coaching at the CYs and progressed to the senior coach role and led the club from Division 1 through Premier C and into Premier B for the first time in the club’s history.

In addition to the personal achievements of being the 2011 AFL Coaches’ Association Western Region Coach of the Year and the 2019 VAFA Premier Coach of the Year, Mat celebrates leading the club to two Senior & two Reserves premierships.

He has also overseen the growth of the club to include 4 men’s senior teams, 3 Under 19 teams and a Senior Womens team.

Always striving to build the Williamstown football family, Monty was instrumental in building the connection between the club and the Williamstown Juniors and Williamstown VFL.

These relationships will prove to be one of his greatest legacies.

While Mat has proven himself as one of the great coaches of community sport in the Western Suburbs, he has equally proven himself as a great person and developer of young people.

We thank him for his service to the community and look forward to Monty and his family enjoying life as a CYs supporter in 2022 and beyond.

Cameron Oates

The Executive and CYs community would like to acknowledge the commitment of Cameron Oates to the CYs footy club as he stands down from his role as reserves coach at the end of the 2021 season.

Cam joined the club as a player in 2013 and was a Division 1 premiership player in 2014 – continued success came when he played in the club’s first Premier C win.

Appointed as co-coach of the senior reserves in 2018, Cam led the team to a Premiership in 2019 only losing two games for the season. Leading the reserves through two challenging COVID impacted seasons was challenging, however, he kept spirits and attitudes positive through his consistent and enthusiastic approach.

As a reflection of Cam’s commitment to the club, he along with wife Megan even became sponsors during the 2021 season.

Truly connected people are hard to find and we sincerely thank Cam for his time and efforts for the club over a long period of time and look forward to seeing him at the CYs in 2022.
