CYs Leadership Group

It is said that the quality of a leader is reflected in the standards that they set for themselves. This is no different for the group of individuals who will lead the CYs into a historic year, with the entry of 7 teams across the different sections of the VAFA.

These individuals have led from the front and have been selected due to their commitment to both club and community.

Leading the way are our two Senior co-captains Fin Adamson and Tom Johnstone. Fin going in to his 3rd year leading the club has set a standard of uncompromising attack on the contest. Often referred to as “The General” he has been instrumental in directing and guiding our attack from the back half. Many may remember his huge influence in the 2014 grand final crashing into contest after contest on the way to the premiership.

This season will see the introduction of co-captains with inspirational leader Tom Johnstone stepping up. Jobbo, as he is affectionately known, is a two-time club Best & Fairest winner. His football journey has seen him work his way through the TAC with the Western Jets and VFL at Williamstown. After spending the 2017 season traveling, Tom had a huge 2018 leading the club from the middle of the ground. His fierceness and uncompromising defensive ability combined with his contested ball winning ability has seen him set the standard.

2019 will see our Seagals kick off their second year in the competition. With a successful first year highlighted by a final’s appearance, the woman’s team sees itself promoted to Division 1 of the VAFA woman’s competition. Leading the Seagals will be Kacie Cook. Kacie displayed exceptional leadership on and off the field in 2018. She is a tireless worker with elite kicking and decision-making skills. Her courage to persist through injury to support her teammates has earned her the respect and admiration throughout the club. Her insights and encouragement for women new to football will continue to be invaluable as the 2019 captain.

In what is a further historic event, our U19s will move into the elite Premier Division for the first time in club history. With our U19s program paving the way in player development, we have two emerging young leaders in Taite Sharp and Felix Sutter appointed as co-captains. Both are products of Williamstown Juniors, and as part of their migration to the CYs, have shown qualities that lend themselves to driving the CYs Unders program.
