Football Development Key Priority for CYs

The Football Williamstown program is flourishing more than ever. With the goal of bringing together the 3 key footballing entities in the community – Williamstown Juniors – Williamstown CYMS – Williamstown VFL, the development pathway is achieving its objectives put in place when the program started in 2011.

Heading into Season 2019, the entire CYs list now boasts a record 3 listed Williamstown VFL players and 6 Western Jets players. Leading the charge at the VFL is Nic Ebinger (now in his 4th year at Willy), Kal Dawson (2nd year) and the newest to the entourage, Ben Connolly (debut season). All 3 played at Willy Juniors and then had a significant impact with the CYs U19s. They were transitioned into the senior program early to fast track their development, launching them into the next level of their football journey. This compliments the Club’s already impressive list of former-VFL players of Tom Johnstone, Ash Heaver, Lachy Fairly, Dylan Jones, Jacob Wheelahan and brothers Ben & Jack Gray.

Similar to the Seniors, the U19s also look to have its fair share of talent being represented at various levels. Led by 2018 B&F Runner Up Josh Kellett, the club also has Liam Conway, Jai Haines, Declan Edwards, Tane Roordink & Archi Manton on the Jets list for 2019. This follows up from last year’s efforts of having 4 players listed and playing at the Western Jets. After a strong season last year, Will Smyth, Jack Harrison and Stef Costa were invited down to Gellibrand over the off season to get some exposure to the VFL system, and Oskar Manton has spent his summer embedded into the Northern Blues VFL program.

The club actively believes in and pursues development for all of its players, and the above achievements are also a testament to the Williamstown football program. The coaching staff at the CYs are committed to fostering each individual to be the best they can be.
