A new year has brought about a new challenge for the CYs Under 19s, as the Club looks to head into unchartered territory for the first time in its rich history.
The 19s team will be competing in the U19s Premier competition in 2019.
Re-launched back in 2011, the story of the CYs Unders has been one of growth, stability and positivity that has culminated in reaching the top tier for Season 2019. Having a history of ad-hoc appearances in the VAFA Unders competition, the club reset in 2011 with the introduction of the then U18s and now Senior coach, Mat Montebello. Solidifying the success of the 2011 season with a GF appearance in Section 4, the club took the next step by fielding 1 x U19s team and 1 x U18s team in 2012. With a back-to-back GF appearance in 2012, the 19s were rewarded with promotion to Section 3.
The appointment of head coach Con Terzoglou in 2014, saw the CYs continue to grow their Unders footprint within the VAFA competition by consistently fielding two teams. Within 3 years, the 19s moved into Section 2 for the first time in Club history.
In 2018 the team finished in 1st place on the ladder and suffered a heartbreaking Grand Final defeat, however with 4 Western Jets listed players and some of the best talent in the area, the club embed its reputation as the Unders football standard within the Western Suburbs.
As the Club reflects and takes pride in the Unders journey thus far, which includes 3 promotions in 7 years, it eagerly awaits the challenge ahead. The players and coaches are committed to best representing the local talent against some of the known football powerhouses at this level.
The Club is very proud of the achievements to date and is looking forward to the younger talent continuing to flourish as we provide the best football pathway to our young men. There will be many challenges over the course of the year, but the boys will have the full support of everyone from the Williamstown community as they demonstrate that the Club is ready to raise the bar yet again.
