In exciting news, the club has appointed Ron Rooney as our new Director of Coaching.
Ron comes to the CY’s with 40 years of experience as a head coach and a mentor of coaches.
Ron has coached football clubs across the EDFL, WRFL and the VAFA and also cricket clubs in the Premier and VTCA. He is a multiple ‘coach of the year’ across these leagues, captained and coached teams to premierships and is an Oak Park FC Hall of Famer and coach and player in their team of the century. Ron has delivered coaching courses for Cricket Australia, the AFL, the University of Canberra as well as numerous school, community and local club programs. He was also a fitness advisor to the Victorian Cricket team, coaching and development manager for Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia and football manager for Coburg Football Club in the VFL.
Given the growth of the club over recent years, providing our coaches with as much support as possible is seen as incredibly important to the future of our club, and Ron is a great appointment into this important role.
As the director of coaching, Ron will be responsible for:
- Coaching, supporting, mentoring and developing our coaches to deliver consistent high-level football programs.
- Facilitate coaching development workshops and meetings
- Develop the club on-field football strategy
- Provide operational support across all 8 teams
- Grow and support our talent pathway
This is the first time that the club has separated the Director of Coaching role from the Senior Men’s Coach. Our new senior coach Con Terzoglou and Ron have already had many conversations as we prepare to hit Round 1 on April 2 2022. Ron is now widening those conversations with Lawrence Henry our Womens Coach and Joel Hogarth our new Under 19s Coach.
